My family came to Brooklyn in the late 1800s. Brooklyn is more than a physical place, it is a state of mind and a frame of reference. It a place where lifelong relationships are born and where there is a deep code of ethics that is rarely spoken but always understood For hundreds of years it has welcomed and accepted only the best people from all over the world. Why only the best people? No matter who they were, who they ran from, and why they came, once they were in Brooklyn they became the best people. Now I'm asking you nicely, do you have a problem with that?
The adaptive reuse of historical structures is one of my favorite activities. In this photo, we are turning a one hundred year old clothing factory into 54 new apartments. When we began the renov ation the building was being used for occassional storage and making little economic contribution to the community. When we are complete, it will house many people and add t the fabric of the community.
